Ghana Get Get: Good for Africa but a disappointment for the USA

Posted on 28.06.2010 by Leslie Wolf-Creutzfeldt

After the American loss to Ghana on Saturday there have been many comments about what went wrong and why the USA couldn't get past a relatively easy opponent. That misses the point. The only African team still in the World Cup Competition must survive in an African tournament even if it kills American soccer for a while. It is great for the continent to have one African team in the quarter finals even if the USA is the sacrificial lamb.

But it's been a great ride into the best of 16. Good enough for now. We leave with our heads held high and look forward to a World Cup in the Americas in four years: Brazil 2014. USA will look much more formidable and a whole nation will be watching...along with the rest of the world.
