Can anybody be a lobbyist given the wide access and impact of social media platforms? What can be done to address the fact that regulators are struggling to keep pace with technological progress, therefore undermining innovation? How have sustainability concerns, such as climate change or resource efficiency, impacted the way businesses represent their interests? And, with the EU elections around the corner and potentially resulting in another populist wave, what can the role of public-private partnerships be?
With regulation today strongly influencing the ability of companies, industries, and national economies to innovate, Grayling Public Affairs hosted a comms.breakfast event in Vienna on how to best advocate for global trends that will shape our future. The digitalisation of public affairs, the rise of populism and protectionism and the increased demand for corporate accountability were among the topics discussed by stakeholders from all over Europe and the US.
Gunnar Bender, Author of “Disruptive Affairs”, Franz Zöchbauer, Head of Public Affairs VERBUND, Vanessa Chesnot, EU Public Affairs Director Grayling Brussels and Imma Baumgartner, Head of International Public Affairs Grayling Austria, spearheaded the panel session moderated by Russell Patten, CEO Grayling Brussels and Chairman of Grayling Public Affairs. The event was held under Chatham House rule.
“Our interactions with governments and the way organisations and businesses communicate their interests and shape public policies is undergoing a substantial change process where expecting the unexpected has become a requirement”, Russell Patten summed up the discussions.
